This policy covers the Bihar Police Notebook Chrome extension and the website editor. They ship as separate packages: the extension only launches the editor tab; the editor is the static site where you write. Your documents stay on your device by default. Optional Google Drive backup is off until you choose to connect.

Data collection

We do not run our own accounts or analytics for your notes. There is no mandatory sign-in. If you connect Google Drive, authentication is handled by Google; this app only receives an access token to write/read files it creates in your Drive (`drive.file` scope).

• No analytics, tracking, cookies, or fingerprinting by this app
• No ads
• No selling or sharing of your data

Local storage

Letters and diaries are stored in your browser (IndexedDB) on this device.

The Chrome extension package contains only a toolbar launcher (manifest, background script, icons). It opens or focuses the editor tab. It does not read other websites, and it does not see or send your documents. The host that serves the editor files does not receive your notes.

Google Drive backup (optional)

Use the Drive button in the header to sign in with Google. The app creates or reuses a folder named BP Writing Tool in your My Drive and syncs each document as a JSON file. Local edits save quickly in the browser; Drive backup is infrequent — after ~45 seconds of idle typing, when you leave the tab, or when you use Backup / Sync all — not on every keystroke. Opening the editor pulls newer or missing files from Drive, then pushes any pending locals.

• History items show whether each document is backed up; you can back up one item, the current list, or sync all.
• Disconnect revokes access from this browser. It does not delete the folder or files already in your Drive.
• After you connect, a short-lived access token is stored in this browser (IndexedDB) for up to one day so refresh does not always ask you to sign in again. Google may still require a quiet re-check when that token expires (~1 hour).
• Data stays in your Google account. We do not host your notes.

Transliteration

When you type in Hinglish mode, suggestion requests go to Google Input Tools over the network so Devanagari candidates can be shown. Only the text you are typing for suggestions is sent in those requests — not your saved document history. Offline typing still works without suggestions.

बोलकर लिखें (Dictation)

The floating microphone lets you write by speaking (Hindi or English–India). The mic is on only while dictation is listening — you will see a clear indicator on the button.

• Whenever Chrome’s offline language pack is installed, speech is converted on your computer. Audio does not leave the device.
• If an offline pack is not available, we ask you first before using Google’s online recognition. Only if you allow it is audio sent for recognition.
• This app does not record, store, or upload your audio. Recognition text is inserted into your document on this device like normal typing.

Note: Hinglish typing suggestions already use Google Input Tools over the network, so the app is not fully offline in that mode either.

Data deletion

• Delete a document from History anytime.
• Clear all documents by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. Uninstalling the extension does not remove notes stored by the website origin — clear site data for that.

Your rights (GDPR)

Because we do not collect or store your personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf. You control everything that lives in your browser.

Bihar Police Notebook is a browser tool for writing Hindi letters and FIR case diaries. Type in Hinglish for Devanagari suggestions, or use बोलकर लिखें to dictate.

Local History lives in this browser for this website’s origin. Clearing site data or using another origin can empty History. Optional Google Drive backup (when connected) keeps copies in your Drive folder so you can restore on the same or another browser after signing in again.

• Domain or URL change — IndexedDB is tied to the site origin (e.g. a custom domain vs GitHub Pages). Opening a new address looks like an empty History even if old docs still exist on the previous origin. Connect Drive and use Sync all to restore from your Drive folder if you had backed up.
• Clearing site data — browser settings that clear cookies / site data for this site also wipe local letters and diaries (Drive copies remain if you had connected).
• Private / Incognito — storage is temporary and is discarded when the private window closes.
• Another device or Chrome profile — local history does not sync by itself; use Drive backup and Sync all after connecting on the other device.
• Storage full or browser bugs — rare IndexedDB failures or quota limits can prevent saves or leave data unreadable.

Tip: use Export / Print (PDF) for important documents so you have a copy outside the browser. Drive backup is an additional safety net when enabled.
